Our mission in 140 characters:
Form communities in the real world through the tools and culture of social media in order to help under privileged children around the globe.
Tweet Drive was founded in October, 2010 by Philadelphia student/entrepreneur, Harrison Kratz. Derived from Harrison’s passion for helping children and the power of social media, the Tweet Drive initiative launched with the 2010 Holiday Tweet Drive where Harrison and his volunteers collected about 2,000 toys and raised over $7,000. With that, Tweet Drive was off and running.
Giving Back, One Tweet at a Time.
Whether it’s our Holiday Tweet Drive, an individual event, or a disaster relief campaign, we strive to gather a global philanthropic community through the use of social media. In the mold of the successful Twestival campaigns, we bring together our communities offline in the name of social good. All events are 100% organized by volunteers, organizers, and Tweet Drive champions.
Tweet Drive was founded through the idea of giving is the greatest thing, one person can do during the Holidays. Since we now live in a time where communication is both social and boundless, it is our mission to use social communication and new technologies to give back to children all over the world.
Not with a tweet, but a bounce.
The idea of Tweet Drive was not founded on a tweet, facebook post, or anything even resembling social media. While working at a children’s party and moon bounce establishment, Bounce U of Langhorne, PA, our founder Harrison Kratz participated in an event in the winter of 2008 where homeless children came to bounce, read Christmas stories, visit Santa, and receive treats for the holidays. The event was filled with holiday spirit and left everyone involved with an experience that they would never be forgotten.
That one night inspired Harrison to make the 2009 event even better through the creation of a toy drive. After raising over toys in 2009; in 2010, the Holiday Tweet Drive was born. While we maintain a social presence through all of over philanthropic missions, and endeavors, this drive is not built on Twitter – it is built on the idea that for even just a night, we can all change the world through something as simple as a toy.
